BERNDREWS BOXERS
Breeding for Type & Temperament
About Us
My involvement in Boxer Dogs began when I was a child. My grandmother bred and exhibited boxers for many years under the affix Berndrews, my mother (then a young girl) showed in the children's handling classes as did my aunt. I had the fortune of being born into a family who loved the BOXER so it was no surprise to my Mum & Granny that I developed an interest in dogs at a young age. I remember going to an all breed open show at Lisburn Market when I was 7. My mum had been asked to steward for one of the judges by David Flynn as they were short of stewards. I spent the day walking around the rings looking at all the different breeds, when I seen a lady with Short Haired Daschunds. I was as bold as brass then so I asked her if I could take them for a walk. To my surprise she said yes. So there I was walking with 2 Daschunds round the show. That was it for me I was hooked after that!!!
I had always seen the Boxers at my grandmother’s house and I use to love playing with the puppies that she had at the time. However, my proper introduction came in the form of a dark brindle & white bitch called Berndrews China Doll given to my mum by my gran. So named apparently when she was born as she was so small my mum commented on that she looked like she was made out of bone China. I was known for bringing home all the stray cats & dogs under the sun! Including a cat called "Fluff" who ended up having a litter of kittens in our kitchen! When I was 14, my grandmother knowing how much I wanted to show gave me a golden brindle & white dog called Berndrews Jiminy Cricket (Tim to us). Tim was sired by Ann Ingram’s Ch. Tirkane Toastmaster. He was a real softy and much preferred his home comforts than going to dog shows! However, I did show him at a few Open Shows and 1 or 2 Championship Shows . I will always remember my very first class win under Vince Zammitt (Santonoaks) with Tim. He was my faithful friend until he passed away at the right old age of 13.
My mother was granted the Affix LYNSHANES in the mid 90s and I exhibited Berndrews City Slicker ( a CH Santonoaks Robbie Redcoat Grandson) and we did very well at open shows. She was exhibiting Dysart Enchantress At Lynshanes (Ivy to us) at the same time and she did extremely well under All Rounders and Breed Specialists alike, clocking up ten BOBs and numerous group placings. Candun Mischeivous Star At Lynshanes (Amber) was another top winning bitch sired by CH Seacreast Danoli At Carmondene JW. Amber was a wonderfully constructed boxer winning countless BOBs and group placings at Open and Championship level. She gained a Reserve Green star at Saint Patricks International All Breed Championship Show under well known American judge Richard Beauchamp. Amber was mated to Ir Ch Norwatch Sunhawk Beamish and one bitch from this litter was kept. Lynshanes Katie Daley has already won a Green Star under Gerard Mitchell. Both Amber and her daughter Katie have qualified for Boxer Society of Ireland Dog Of The Year . Norwilbeck On The Dot With Lynshanes (Dotty) joined the Lynshanes Kennel in March 2006 and already has won her first BOB at ten months under Breed Specialist Jan Buckley (Shakatans) and Lynshanes Katie Daley winning the Reserve BOB.
The Berndrews Affix was handed down to me and my partner Kaling by my grandmother to continue the Berndrews winning ways in March 2006. I have a beautifully bred bitch Waynflete Wishing Well At Berndrews. Winnie is sired by Boxer Quarterly Top Sire CH Winuwuk Lust In The Dust and has done well at the few open shows she has been at. I am currently exhibiting a Champion Norwilbeck Special Blend son who has been very consistent at all the shows he has been at. Eddie gained 2nd out of an extremely strong class of 12 at the Cotswold Boxer Club Championship Show 2006 in the Puppy Dog Class. This win qualified Eddie for Crufts 2007. See the Show Results Page for his latest wins.
We lived in the UK for some years where we successfully campaigned Eddie among some of the best dogs in England. We have returned home to Ireland where we hope to campaign Eddie to his Irish Champion status... and his kennel mate Berndrews New Beginning (Gemma).
I have judged my first open show in December 2004 and my BOB winner won an extremely strong class at Crufts 2005. I am also on the Committee of The Irish Boxer Dog Club and have been a member since I was 14 years old. I am always happy to give honest advice & help anyone who is interested in showing their Boxers no matter how old they are!
